The Benefits of Masking

The Benefits of Masking - Hey Honey Beauty

A mask is not your average skin treatment. These intensive skincare products are designed to be left on the skin for some time, allowing you to sit back and relax while the mask does its magic. There are masks for every skin type, from the driest to the oiliest. Masks come in all varieties, from soothing mud masks to enriching honey face masks. Here are some tips for choosing and using the perfect mask for you.

Why use a mask?

Unlike washes, which are designed to be rinsed off, and lotions, which are intended to be absorbed by the skin, a mask is applied to the skin and left there for several minutes. Some masks are only meant to stay in place for five or ten minutes, while others are intended to be left on for more extended periods. Some masks are meant to remain moist for the entire time you wear them, while others should be left to dry on the skin.

Masks offer more intensive skincare, providing a more significant dose of active ingredients and allowing them to work on the skin. In moisturizing masks, the rich, thick formulation allows the skin to soak up more moisture than it could from a lotion. Purifying masks draw out more oil and more impurities than washes or medicated pads. In the case of peel-off masks, removing the mask also lifts away dead cells and other debris for cleaner, clearer skin.

Types of skincare masks

Once you've graduated from simple home-made masks to professionally formulated skin products, you may feel a little surprised. When you're choosing a skincare mask, the sheer variety can be daunting. Should you choose a mud mask or a peel-off formulation? What's the right mask for your skin type? Can you use skincare masks anywhere else on your body?

Honey masks are an excellent general option for a range of skin types. A honey face mask like Sweet Treat Wild Berry & Honey Recovery Mask, benefits sensitive skin by encouraging healing and reducing inflammation and killing acne-causing bacteria. Other honey mask benefits include anti-fungal properties.

A mud mask is one of the classic skin treatments. Dead Sea mud masks like Uncover are great for oily or combination skin or those suffering from certain minor skin conditions such as eczema. Our Uncover Detoxifying Mud Mask also includes propolis, a bee enzyme, which is used to fight infections and heal wounds and irritations. Dead Sea mud mask benefits aren't limited to the soothing and absorbent properties of the clay -- they also contain essential minerals that can nurture the skin.

A peel-off face mask is ideal if you suffer from clogged pores and blackheads, removing the dirt and debris that cause them. Our Take It Off Exfoliating Honey Peel Off Mask is great for exfoliating and can be used on all skin types. This mask instantly renews skin by promoting a smoother, clearer complexion.

You can use rich skincare lotions in the same way as a mask. For your feet, try a rich, nourishing foot balm-like Walk the Walk Propolis Foot Cream. Apply thickly and leave for a few minutes before massaging into the skin. This cream will soften, protect and refresh your feet back to brand new with the help of Propolis which is used to eliminate bacteria and help with wound healing while Aloe Vera soothes inflammation while moisturizing.

When using skincare masks, don't neglect the rest of your body. Applying the mask to your neck, upper chest, and the back of your hands will give you a real beauty boost.

If using a peel off mask in the morning, apply our Good Morning Honey Silk Facial Serum before and afterwards to reap the benefits of the mask and hydration. If applying a peel off mask at night, use Relax Propolis and Honey Soothing Cream or 24Seven Honey Day & Night Cream before applying the mask, and then after masking apply a layer of Good Night Royal Honey Facial Replenisher with Coenzyme Q10 to seal it all in while receiving the added benefits throughout the night.
